Hiraeth is a Welsh word that embodies a profound longing for a home that may no longer exist, or perhaps never truly did. It encapsulates feelings of homesickness intertwined with nostalgia, yearning, and an ache for something lost over time.

In this exhibition, artist Jason Kwong invites you to embark on a journey exploring the complex emotions of immigration, particularly the experiences of Hongkongers. Once a British colony, Hong Kong returned to China in 1997, evolving within a complex cultural and identity landscape. Over the years, citizens expressed their dissatisfaction with the erosion of democratic freedoms and growing distrust in the government through protests. In the last four years, over 400,000 people have sought new opportunities abroad.

As many Hongkongers do, Jason settles into life in Britain, confronting the uncertainty of a Hong Kong he once knew—a place now irrevocably changed. His artworks reflect this bittersweet nostalgia, capturing the weight of memories and emotions that shape identity.

Through Hiraeth, Jason sheds light on the struggles of immigrants, exploring how the pull of the past intertwines with the experience of forging a new path in an unfamiliar land. Join us as we delve into this evocative exploration of identity, memory, and the relentless quest for belonging.

 

《斷不捨離》呼應極簡主義與佛教概念中的「斷捨離」。鄺律銘在「不」字上添加了一層反思，希望讓人了解到在斷捨離的過程中，其實充滿著無盡的留戀與不捨。

在這次展覽中，藝術家鄺律銘邀請您一同踏上探索移民複雜情感的旅程，特別聚焦於香港人的經歷。香港曾是英國殖民地，於1997年回歸中國，在複雜的文化和身份認同等議題辯論多年。隨着民主自由被侵蝕的憂慮增加，在過去四年間，有超過四十萬香港人移居海外，尋求新的機遇。

當鄺律銘在英國定居時，他面對著曾經熟悉的香港，如今已變得陌生與不確定。他的藝術作品反映了這種苦澀的懷念，捕捉了塑造身份認同的記憶與情感重量。透過《斷不捨離》的主題，鄺律銘揭示了移民的掙扎，探索過去的牽絆如何與在陌生土地上開創新道路的經歷交織。歡迎您與我們一起深入探索這場對身份、記憶與歸屬感的藝術展覽。
