Jason Kwong transforms longing and loss into a dual-pump circulation system, staging the imagined act of calling deceased loved ones. Ink—conceived as the fluid form of ashes—moves through tubes in a continuous loop, carrying faint whispers. It holds both the virtues and transgressions embedded in personal and collective histories, allowing participants to speak into it as one would into a telephone, sharing fragments of daily life—both mundane and intimate. Within the glass tank, the ink gradually diminishes like sand in an hourglass, imposing a temporal limit that compels the speaker to update their life before it runs dry. Through this system, Kwong constructs a speculative interface for communicating with the underworld: although the realm of the dead responds only with silence, words that might otherwise remain unspoken are released through the act of participation.
